Putting inside of 6 feet can make or break your game. I’ve talked before about how statistics prove this. Even PGA Tour pros will struggle a little bit more with each foot outside of 3 feet. Luckily, a simple drill can make all the difference!
You’ll need two golf balls and eight tees for this drill. On either side of the hole, place a tee at 3 feet from the cup. Add an additional tee at each foot further away until you have tees at 3, 4, 5, and 6 feet from the hole. In this exercise, you are competing ball against ball. The aim is to hit one putt at a time from each side of the cup. Start at 3 feet and work your way out to 6 feet and back in. See which side you are able to complete first. This may give you insight as to where you need to practice more. You should also vary between up versus downhill and left to right versus right to left, seeing which putts you are better at.
This is a great way to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses as a golfer. I think you will find with this simple drill you will significantly improve your putting inside of 6 feet.
