I have had the great fortune of being able to play many of the most highly renowned golf courses. My travels as a touring pro took me around the world. Yet, having lived just 5 minutes up the street from Peachtree Golf Club for many years, I had always hoped to get the opportunity to play there. An invitation was extended in the summer of 2015 through a good friend. I feel very fortunate to have seen this course for myself.
The visual impact of this course is striking. It impresses in every way with its magnificent design in addition to being manicured to perfection. Prominent golf figures, Bobby Jones and Robert ‘Trent’ Jones, worked on this one together, although Robert was the primary designer. Fun fact: these Joneses aren’t related, but we’re lucky they came together for this project.
Augusta National has long been considered the Joneses drawers golf course while the opposite is said of Peachtree which favors the fader from the tee. The course draws comparisons to Augusta National, thanks not only to the creators but the flora which decorates the course. Azaleas, dogwoods, and tall Georgia pines line the fairways and garden beds throughout the property. To say it’s picturesque is an understatement.
When reminiscing on my time at Peachtree Golf Club, my memories are fond. And it doesn’t hurt that the score was good that day: a bogey free (-4) 68, playing alongside 2006 US Mid-Amateur Champion, Dave Womack. I would treasure an opportunity to tackle this incredible Jones course at Peachtree Golf Club again some day!
